Bowl of Oranges in Watercolor

January 22, 2013

How To Watercolor oranges

Here a step by step process I used to paint a bowl of oranges.  It’s not my favorite piece, but I learned a lot about glazes as I worked on this.

1 watercolor fruit bowl step by step

My teacher taught us that you should glaze yellow, then blue, then red to get the best color vibrancy.  Here’s a bit of that process…

3 watercolor fruit bowl step by step

4 watercolor fruit bowl step by step

Here’s where I started to like the strength of the colors I used and was able to get in some little details like the reflection of the orange and the stems of each fruit.

6 watercolor fruit bowl step by step

7 watercolor fruit bowl step by step

This last step is still questionable to me.  My teacher suggested getting my colors even more intense with more glazes, but I think I liked it a little better before I did that!  Oh well, school is for learning, not creating masterpieces 🙂
